Westchester Update – July 2026

On July 15, HLAA Westchester was honored with a Proclamation by the Westchester County Executive and Board of Legislators. The chapter was one of only three groups and one company honored at a ceremony at historic Rye Playland recognizing the anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

The proclamation read, in part, “The Hearing Loss Association of America Westchester Chapter has been instrumental in supporting residents with hearing loss by providing vital educational programs and practical coping strategies, as well as eliminating the social isolation that often accompanies hearing difficulties. July 15th, 2026 is hereby proclaimed ‘Hearing Association of American Day’.”

Pictured in the photo above are (L-R) Robert Wolfe, Chapter board member, Debbie Wolfe, Chapter ex-president, Tom Mercantante, Chapter President, Steve Wolfert, President of HLAA New York State Association.

In Memory of Karen Ratner
HLAA Westchester was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Karen Ratner, a long-time chapter member and ex-president, and Walk4Hearing treasurer. We all have fond memories of Karen at chapter meetings, conventions, conferences, picnics, holiday dinners, and the annual Westchester/Rockland Walk4Hearing. Karen will be sorely missed.

HLAA Westchester is proud to announce that we now serve people in both Westchester and Rockland Counties, NY. For more information about our chapter and activities please visit www.hlaawestchester.org.
