May is “Better Hearing & Speech Month.” To celebrate that occasion, the Westchester Chapter of HLAA donated seven books about hearing loss to a special exhibit at the Irvington, NY Public Library.
Among the books in the collection: Hear & Beyond – Live Skillfully with Hearing Loss by Shari Eberts and Gael Hannan, Hearing & Brain Health by Andrew Campbell, Hearing Loss for Dummies by Frank Lin and Nicholas Reed, Hearing With My Heart by Justin Osmond, Life After Deaf – My Misadventures in Hearing Loss and Recovery by Joel Holston and David Bianculli, Shouting Won’t Help by Katherine Bouton, and Smart Hearing by Katherine Bouton.
Once the exhibit is completed, the books will be added to the permanent collection of the Irvington Library, and will be available to any Westchester County library patron through the county library lending system. The Irvington library, home to HLAA Westchester chapter meetings, is also in the process of installing a permanent Induction Loop system, with half of the cost paid by the HLAA chapter.
HLAA Westchester received the idea for the book donation from the Rochester chapter, which for years has donated books on hearing loss to a number of libraries within their region.
